Course Outline
1. Introduction to Asbestos
Chapter one covers the course learning objectives as well as an overview of the different types of asbestos, materials that may contain asbestos, and the differences between friable and non-friable asbestos.
2. Health Risks of Asbestos
Learn about the health risks of asbestos including primary health concerns, secondary effects of exposure, occupations that are at risk of exposure, medical surveillance programs, pre-employment medical exams, and asbestos work reports.
3. Risk Assessment & Controls
This chapter covers the assessment of asbestos as a health hazard in the workplace, exposure risk assessments, sample collection, classification of work, low/moderate/high exposure of risk, permissible exposure limits, notification, monitoring, and training requirements.
4. Safe Work Procedures
Learn about specific requirements for workplace procedures, regulated areas, inspection and monitoring, air sampling requirements, low exposure risk procedures, moderate exposure risk procedures, glove bag operations, high exposure risk procedures, decontamination, and waste disposal.
5. Asbestos Personal Protective Equipment
In chapter six you will learn about the different forms of personal protective equipment that is used when working around asbestos. This includes different types of respirators, how to select the right type of respirator, and how to use your respirator. You will also learn about fit testing, emergency planning and preparedness, procedures for medical emergencies, and procedures for an asbestos emergency spill.
