In addition to the requirements outlined in the Occupational Health and Safety Act, the Ontario Regulation 213/91 Construction Projects gives additional guidance to constructors, general contractors and site supervisors.
As stated in Part 1 of the Construction Regulation, a supervisor or competent person must inspect a workplace at least once per week and also inspect all machinery and equipment, including fire extinguishing equipment, magazines, electrical installations, communication systems, sanitation and medical facilities, buildings and other structures, temporary supports and means of access and egress at the project to ensure that they do not endanger any worker.
Having a third-party inspection further illustrates a firm’s due diligence in relation to their legal obligations to protect workers.
